ESIM was founded in 1997 in Alicante, Spain, and
was the brainchild of Professor Jaime Merino, then President of the
European Federation of Internal Medicine (EFIM). His purpose was
twofold: to provide an exciting scientific programme on advances in
Internal Medicine, and to develop links between young residents in
training from all over Europe.
The School was an immediate success, both scientifically and socially,
and has was held annually in Spain until 2006. From 2006 to 2008
it was hosted in Lisbon, under the successful direction of Antonio Martins Baptista, who joined Chris Davidson as Co-Director of the School in
Greenwich, London in 2009.
Some links to previous Schools are
provided below; the programmes show the varied nature of the topics
covered and the increasing use of workshops in place of lectures to
increase student interaction; and the relaxed atmosphere is clearly
evident from the pictures and interviews on these
web sites.
